Week 23 – The Honu Fez!
Here is my spin on the somewhat traditional Hawaiian Sea Turtle design. Of course it is a combination of Polynesian styles as only a haole like myself would think of as traditional, but I really enjoy exploring symbols that have lasted for generations and seeing where I can insert my design aesthetic.This is one of those designs that has been rattling around in my head for a long time but I just couldn't get an angle on it. Then two things happened that kicked it all in gear. First we received an email from Turtle Matt Last filled links. The second catalyst came from working out designs for a few of our Fez-o-rama projects for the coming Tiki Oasis 7 in San Diego this August. So now we bring you a tikified turtle... on a fez.
