#59 The Flying Monkey Fez
The idea for this fez first came up when I was sitting in an airport waiting for my flight on a Fez Friday. It occurred to me that while I was wearing a fez, it wasn’t one that had anything to do with my current situation. What I really needed was something a bit more topical. Luckily I had my Twitter friends to help pass the time and the idea of a flying monkey was brought up. While on the flight I did manage to sketch a few ideas down and file them away for the future… then my mother-in-law got wind.
Turns out she is a huge fan of L Frank Baum’s Wizard of Oz and has a growing collection that includes 1st editions of the books. In fact she is on her way to London to attend Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Wizard of Oz and decided that what she really needed was a Wizard of Oz related fez to wear to the VIP event.
So after the mandatory amount of procrastination, design revisions and such we are happy to present the prototype for the Flying Monkey fez! This 6 color embroidery features a rather jovial monkey –the better to slide through security with- on a low profile black velvet fez.
This one was a gift but if there is interest I might be convinced to make some more.
